About Batik Fabric
A fabric made with a dyeing technique using a wax resist process is popular as Batik Print Fabric. It is one of the world's oldest textile dyeing methods. Before immersing the fabric in dyes, it is treated with hot wax. The waxed portions are maintained and resist the dye, but the remainder of the cloth absorbs it. The wax keeps the colour from soaking into the fabric, creating exquisite patterns.
It is uncertain whether this method originated in one or more locations.
However, the art of Batik flourished the most in Indonesia, where some of the finest batik cloth is still produced. Batik is found in various countries, including India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Batik in Today's Fashion Trend
Today Batik prints are demanded mainly by designers and fabric lovers as a simple garment can be converted into an exquisite piece without much effort when made from Batik print. It is an ancient art, well accepted in Indian society, and hence it is desired by many customers making it a safe bet for designers and garment manufacturers. Moreover, with the onset of commercial production of modern textiles, many screen printing units have started manufacturing Batik using hand screens, making it economical, scalable, and retaining the charm of original wax patterns.
