Badla is a specialized form of metal embroidery used in India since the 18th century. Metal slabs are melted and punctured through steel sheets in Badla's work. They are then formed into wires and finely hammered. The hammered wire is then twisted and formed into intricate shapes, adding to the textiles' unique visual appeal. The plain wire is known as badla. Badla work, together with kasav (thread), sitara (spangles), and mukaish (tiny metal dots), makes wonderfully attractive textiles that may be used for any occasion. These textiles have a unique look and feel, perfectly balancing classic and modern.
